Glove boxes are essential in protecting against contamination in high-risk environments, yet their design and usage can significantly impact contamination spread and resource waste—posing serious challenges to safety and efficiency. This study investigates two types of glove boxes, focusing on contamination at key touchpoints inside and outside the boxes and evaluating glove usage metrics such as gloves pulled, gloves lost, and contaminated surfaces. The findings reveal critical insights into how glove box practices can drive contamination risks and waste. By addressing these issues, this research provides infection preventionists with actionable strategies to reduce waste, improve contamination control, and enhance safety in demanding environments, making it a vital step forward in infection prevention and control innovation.
